Creede, South Fork and the upper Rio Grande valley have some of the most magnificent scenery in the state. Many of the mountains tower more than 13,000 feet. The Rio Grande and its tributaries make up over 200 miles of streams, with more than 20 lakes scattered throughout the area -all holding healthy trout populations.

The Rod and Reel/Rio Grande Angler FLY SHOP was established in 1989. We are a full service fly shop catering to all your fly-fishing needs. Customer service is first and foremost in importance. Our friendly staff will assist you on a one-on-one basis with everything from knot tying, equipment, and fly selection and recommendation on where and when to fish in the area.

We carry the finest in fly fishing equipment and apparel. Brands such as Orvis, Sage, Redington and St. Croix rods are matched with Ross, Galvin and Orvis reels, spooled with Orvis and Scientific angler fly lines to give you the highest quality most dependable equipment for your dollar. We also stock Orvis, Simms and Redington waders and boots in all sizes for the family. If your looking for a float tube or pontoon boat we carry Bucks Bags and Outcast. We also have the largest selection and inventory of flies in the area. Most flies are only $15 a dozen. We have Exofficio and Orvis clothing along with a large selection of T-shirts. We carry many gift products and fishing related home accents, companies such as Big Sky Carvers, Angler Expressions and Orvis just to name a few. Shop hours are April 1 - June 15 from 9:00-5:00; June 15 - September 10 from 7:00-6:00; and September 11 - December 31 from 9:00-5:00. People often ask what is better: a float trip or wade trip? It simply depends on the type and style of fishing that the angler would like. For example, on float trips you can cast one time at 100 holes, or on a wade trip you can cast 100 times at one hole. Variety is the spice of life.
FLY-FISHING FLOAT TRIPS: Guided float fishing is a great way for both beginning and expert anglers to fish many miles of the Rio Grande, and to enjoy all the beautiful surroundings. This type of fishing also allows the angler to reach sections of the river not accessible by foot, such as the Gold Medal water between South Fork and Del Norte. All of our guides are indeed true 'trout bums' who live to fish and take every opportunity to float and fish the river. Through countless hours, endless river miles and years of experience our guide staff has mastered rowing techniques that will help put the angler in the best possible position to cast, hook, fight, and land your trophy fish. Our staff is constantly monitoring the river's water level, temperature, clarity and hatch movements so that your Rio Grande Float Trips have you fishing the most productive stretches.

WADE FLY-FISHING TRIPS: Guided Wade trips are a great way for anglers to spend more time "working" quality water. Such trips allow your guide more hands on time with you. They will be by your side and help you spot and stalk the elusive trout of the Rio Grande. We also offer wade trips to smaller streams in the area. These are the type of streams you most likely fished as a kid with worms or bait. Although we have all passed that stage in our life (thank goodness) the fishing is still just as memorable. Lots of trout eager to take a well-placed dry fly with reckless abandon. Don't assume that small streams only hold small fish. There are a lot of big trout caught while small stream fishing. Many of the local streams have produced extremely large trout. Browns, rainbows, brookies and Rio Grande cutthroat can all be found in many of the small streams. Catching all four species on the same day is called a Rocky Mountain Grande Slam, and is quite a special occasion.
Fly-fishing equipment is provided for you at no extra cost. A streamside lunch will be provided on all full day trips. We offer both half-day and full-day trips. Private access ranches: 100% exclusive and private fishing for trophy trout, bass and pike. The access fees are in addition to the above guide fees and range from $35-$150 per rod. Full day trips only, two-person maximum. Call the shop for details and reservations.
