Denver and its surrounding area provides visitors and locals plenty of adventures within just 1 hour of driving. Whether you want to get away from the big city lights or venture through the cultural Mecca, adventures to suit your fancy await.

North of Denver traveling along Interstate 25 (I-25) resides Loveland, Fort Collins, and Greeley. Attractions include Boyd Lake, Carter Lake & Horse Tooth Reservoir to sooth the fishing and water sport enthusiast. Hikers and bikers will enjoy the multitude of trails nearby. The area is full of history and western flair with museums, colleges and one of the nations top rodeos, The Greeley Stampede.

Traveling along US Highway 36 (US 36), northwest of Denver, leads to Boulder and Estes Park and Longmont. Hiking, biking, shopping, and water sports all provide a lasting impression on visitors. Longmont is home to the Boulder County Fairgrounds, which plays host to the annual Boulder County Fair among other art and cultural events.

Allenspark and Nederland are also to the northwest of Denver. From Boulder, take State Highway 119 West to State Highway 72 (SH 72). Traveling north along SH 72 leads to Allenspark and continuing to its end is Estes Park. This excursion is known as the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway. Visit ghost towns, gold mines, and the Continental Divide and keep your eyes peeled for an abundance of wildlife. The byway takes on a whole other look in fall with aspens turning to gold, yellow, orange, green and brown. The entire byway is 55 miles long and requires 80 minutes to travel.

Along I-70 in the Mountains near Denver you will enjoy the natural hot springs in Idaho Springs. Working gold mines, mountain lakes and historic sites provide a look into the beginnings of Colorado mountain life. Central City and Black Hawk offer legalized gambling for the high stakes type. Central City is also home to the world-renowned Central City Opera House.

Southwest of Denver is the Bailey & Pine Area. Near all the amenities of Denver but with a flare of mountain life, this destination is nothing short of spectacular. Anglers will find fishing paradise among the many rivers in the area. A herd of around 200 bighorn sheep have taken up residence near Bailey.

Colorado Springs & Pikes Peak Area to the south of Denver provides an unforgettable opportunity, the view that inspired Katherine Lee Bates to write "America the Beautiful." Pikes Peak is a stones throw from the thoroughfare of Colorado Springs. The United States Air Force Academy and the Garden of the Gods Recreation Area keep visitors busy as they try to take in all the sites of Colorado Springs.
