Fly Fish The High Country Streams Of Southwest Colorado | Private Water Guided Fishing Trips | The San Juan River Float & Wade Fishing Trips | Navajo Lake Fishing Trips | How To Book A Trip | Current Rates

Join a Pagosa Springs Fishing Guide for a great day of fishing in Southwest Colorado and Northern New Mexico on Navajo Lake and the "Quality Waters" of the San Juan River. Species fished on a guided fly fishing trip, include Bass, Pike, Trout, Crappie, Salmon and more! Fly fishing and spin fishing trips with artificial lures and flys are offered on Navajo Lake, and fly fishing only trips are offered on the "Quality Waters" of the San Juan River. We offer wade trips and float trips. All of our guided fly fishing trips include all gear and flies.

FLY FISH THE HIGH COUNTRY STREAMS OF SOUTHWEST COLORADO:

The streams of the upper San Juan are not at ALL like the San Juan in New Mexico. These unspoiled rivers and creeks start just miles above where we will be fishing. The 10,000-foot peaks that are still packed with snow in July feed these intimate rivers on their way to the Navajo Reservoir and then the Tail water section of the San Juan that everyone knows. Some of the many streams that we are permitted on through the San Juan National Forest are the West Fork and East Fork of the San Juan, Quartz Creek, Wolf Creek, Turkey Creek, The Upper Piedra, and the Rio Blanco. These streams are great for beginners and experienced anglers alike. We will access most of the fishing areas on foot or on a 4 wheeler. The fish average 8 Ð 15 inches and are eager for dry flies and dropper rigs. Small steams will often give the beginner fly fisherman many more opportunities to hook fish on the dry fly.

PRIVATE WATER GUIDED FISHING TRIPS:

Learn to Fly Fish, or enjoy wading the banks of Sunset Ranch. The San Juan River runs through the ranch. Giving guests the experience to fish private access on 3/4 of a mile of the river. Multi-day packages are available. Please email or call for pricing of packages.

THE SAN JUAN RIVER FLOAT & WADE FISHING TRIPS:

The San Juan River lies in Northern New Mexico and is one of the most renowned tail-waters in the country. This outstanding fishery was created by the construction of Navajo Damn in 1962 -- Perfect trout habitat! The management of the New Mexico Fish and Game and the New Mexico State Park system has created and maintained this outstanding fishery. The first 3.75 miles of river below the damn has been given the designation of "QUALITY WATER". The Quality Waters offer some of the most consistent fishing conditions, with fish averaging between 16 - 18 inches! Fish this size would be considered a trophy on any other river. Recent studies have shown that the river is supporting 15,000 fish a mile, through the Quality Waters.

A guided trip on the Quality Waters will be the difference between success and frustration. The San Juan is not easy to fish, most first timers to the Juan leave disappointed and frustrated. They find it tough to understand that large trout eat the smallest flies, and that they have to be fished on very light tippets. Detecting the strike is also very difficult; it is often hard to believe that fish of their size will have such a delicate and soft strike.

We can help you unlock the secrets of how to fish on the San Juan. The San Juan doesn't require you to be an awesome fly caster. The casting is often fairly close with the most attention given to your leader and fly set up, the technique, finding where in the water column the fish are feeding, and most importantly - strike detection.

NAVAJO LAKE FISHING TRIPS:

Navajo Lake is located in southwest Colorado and Northern New Mexico. The lake was constructed in 1962 and is 35 miles long with 125 miles of shoreline. The first humans in this area were the Ute and Navajo tribes during the 14th century. Surrounding communities have ancient ruins that are well worth visiting while in the 4-corners area. The lake has 4 recreation areas. In Colorado there is the Navajo State Recreations area located in Arboles at the confluence of the Upper San Juan River and Piedra River. This is my main boat launch when fishing the lake. This area is also known for large numbers of pike in the early summer.
