Boulder Outdoor Center provides equipment, lessons and guided trips in both the winter and summer seasons. EXPERTISE is our difference.

Snow-sports: Avalanche safety, snowshoeing, snowcat and heli-skiing, hut + yurt trips & rentals, alpine + backcountry skis, boards. Paddle-sports: Kayaking, canoeing, rafting, and fishing are our specialties.

    KAYAK INSTRUCTION:

Novice Lake Clinic: This clinic is great for kids through adults who like the outdoors. The majority of our beginning students have never been in a kayak or have very little paddling experience. We take the beginner from the very basics up through the techniques needed for river kayaking. Novice and intermediate boaters are welcome to refresh their strokes and roll. This course (or a demonstration of equivalent ability) is a prerequisite for our river trips.

This course is designed for those who wish to pursue kayaking. Whether you want to paddle lakes, rivers, or oceans, this clinic will give you a strong foundation. Your program begins with an introduction to the boat and equipment. We progress quickly into entry and exit of the kayak, strokes, performing bow rescues, braces to keep yourself upright, deep water rescues, dock enders, and of course a detailed progression into the Eskimo roll. After completion of this course you will have the necessary skills to progress to our novice river trip.

Our lake clinic is available in Boulder, Longmont and Littleton, Colorado. Each location provides a full 6 hours of instruction.

Minimum age for lake clinics is 8 years old.

Novice Indoor Pool Clinic: This clinic is great for kids through adults who like the outdoors. The class covers the very same skills and information as our outdoor Novice Lake Clinic, only in the comfort of a heated pool.

We also offer Kid's Kayak Camps in Summer. Please call for details.

    CANOE INSTRUCTION:

One to three day Canoe trips on the Colorado, Gunnison, and Dolores Rivers. Theme trips, like family trips, wine tasting, star gazing, solo travelers and musical trips are all options. No experience necessary.

    RAFT TRIPS:

The Boulder Outdoor Center has over 28 years of experience in raft trips!

The Boulder Outdoor Center is your connection for raft trips all over Colorado and Utah. We are a wholesaler for the best companies and can book you directly. We will help you compare trips, and offer you the group discount.

Raft trips are rated by the difficulty of the whitewater. River ratings can change with river flows, and can be subjective. We have done our best to compare and rate each of the rivers. The following is a list of the Rivers you can choose from with the length of the trip. We have over 70 trips to choose from. Remember the longer the raft trip the more fun you will have. Call for Details and pricing.

    HELICOPTER SKIING IN TELLURIDE COLORADO:

San Juan Mountains with lots of deep powder!

The staff at Telluride Helitrax invites you to join us this 2008 winter. We believe you'll feel the custom nature, safety, and intimacy of our operation. Telluride Helitrax is the undiscovered jewel of destination heli-skiing. Thank you and all the best . . .

** Please note heli-skiing is not an extreme sport, adventurous intermediates are welcome. Our high-elevation heli skiing terrain, (10,500 to 13,600 feet), is the highest in North America and is generally not affected by warm temperatures and rain at lower elevations on the continent. This allows guests of Telluride Heli-trax's to consistently enjoy cold powder heli skiing through the month of April.

    SNOW KITING INSTRUCTION

    Lake Dillon, Frisco, Colorado

    What is Snow-kiting?

Snow-kiting is the fastest growing winter sport, with good reason, it's so much fun!

Have you ever dreamed of cruising up a hill, instead of down it? Have you ever wanted to ride all day long never stopping to ride a chairlift? Have you looked across flat powder fields and thought to yourself, "What a waste of snow?"

Snow-kiting answers all of these questions and opens up more opportunities to explore. All you need is a good breeze of wind and an Ozone Power Kite and you'll be ready. If the wind is blowing between 5-45 mph, all you need to do is pick the appropriate size kite and the fun will begin.

Many people start on a 2-3 meter size kite, learning to fly and steer the kite on light wind days. When the wind picks up, these sizes of kites will be enough to pull you on a snowboard or skis. As the wind gets stronger the kite will pull you with more force, going faster across flat ground, and building enough power to ski up-hill. If the wind is not strong enough, you will need to fly a larger sized kite to generate the power and speed you are looking for to ride up-hill.

    COLORADO FLY FISHING GUIDES

    Arkansas River

Our home is the Arkansas River in the beautiful Arkansas Valley in Central Colorado. The Arkansas Valley, one of the most geologically interesting areas in the United States, is a rift valley running from Leadville in the North through Salida in the South. The valley is part of the Rio Grande Rift, which will one day be a new ocean from the Gulf of Mexico to Leadville. The Arkansas River cuts a beautiful fishery throughout the entire length of the valley. From a meandering meadow stream in the North to raging whitewater at the Royal Gorge, the Arkansas will please the spirit as well as the body.

If you're looking for something different, fly fish for Pike. Take our boat trip to Eleven Mile reservoir with Pat and experience Pike fishing Colorado style. Left is Pat with a Pike he caught at Eleven Mile Reservoir.
